Society Photographic Competition 2016 – ‘Seasons’

PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION  2016

‘Seasons’

This theme captured people’s imagination and there was an impressive number of entries.

Our judge, Kevin Whibley of ‘Captured Moment’ photographic studio in Fleet was extremely thorough in making his selection.  He stated that: ‘ Just as every person who takes a photograph sees something different in a scene, every judge looks for something different in a photograph.’

As well as looking for photographs that reflected the ‘Seasons’ theme, Kevin was looking for sharp focus, well framed pictures with good composition, colour and atmosphere.

He projected all the photographs onto a big screen and narrowed the number down to 41. He then printed these and spread them out on a big table to make his final selection.

Here are the results, along with Kevin’s comments on why he selected them.

Winner – Rachel Jones – ‘ This picture is unique. It is well framed and focussed and has great atmosphere.’

Runner-up – Richard Davidson – ‘ The heron – the iconic symbol of Fleet Pond – shown here in flight, was sharp, clear and well framed.’

Highly Commended – James Ray – ‘This made me smile. It was a delight to see, sharp and well- focussed.

Highly Commended – Gillian Pullinger. ‘ I particularly liked the light on the reedbed in this ‘moody’ photograph.

Highly Commended – George Simpson. ‘This is clear and well framed, with great light off the splash.’

Highly Commended – Ben Clayton. ‘The colour composition is excellent.’
