As interesting background, Vicki Jull (the competition organiser) writes:

Fleet Morning Townswomen’s Guild is part of a wider network of Guilds within the Hampshire North area, and operates under the National Townswomen umbrella.

For many years the Guild has undertaken fund-raising for charity as part of its activities, and was delighted to support the appeal for the construction of a dipping platform at Fleet Pond.

I am told that this was the second highest amount raised within the Guild, and the Fleet Morning Townswomen’s Guild dipping platform is now resplendent in The Flash between Hemelite Bay and the station car park (see picture below).

Because of the amazing support that the Guild gave to Fleet Pond Society, our Committee asked their Committee to judge our ‘Woods, Water & Wildlife’ photographic competition.”

At the FPS AGM, Barbara Billinge, Nancy Sparrow and Vivien Shoesmith of the Townswomen’s Guild (see picture above) presented the six Highly Commended certificates, and the Rose Bowl prize for the Best Photograph.

The Rose Bowl is an annual presentation that was donated by Fleet Photographic.

Once again, if you’ve not done so already, it’s well worth having a look at the impressive slideshow of the winning entries! See here.

Michelle Salter, Secretary of FPS, writes:

“The Annual General Meeting of the Fleet Pond Society will take place at 7.15pm on Saturday 22nd February 2014 at St. P & J Church Hall, Kings Road, Fleet.

We would like to encourage all our members to attend. This is your opportunity to put questions to the Executive Committee and share your views on the future of Fleet Pond Nature Reserve.

Nominations are requested for the election of Officers and Members to the Executive Committee. Current committee members are required to stand down at the AGM but will be eligible for re-election.

If you would like to nominate someone, please contact me via Michelle@FleetPondSociety.co.uk

Following the official business of the AGM there will be a short break for refreshments before we announce the winners of the Photographic Competition 2013. We do hope everyone who has entered will come along to see their photographs on display.”

David Pottinger writes:

I haven’t had the opportunity to take a walk around the Pond recently so, due to the good weather, I took a quick stroll yesterday and was quite surprised at some of the sights! The recent downpours have made a really big impact.

A Pictorial Review Of 2013

David Pottinger writes:

Here’s a selection of photos from the blog that were published in 2013. It includes some of the the many activities, carried out in close collaboration with Hart Countryside Services, that Fleet Pond Society are active in. A lot more than you might imagine!

If you’d like to support our voluntary activities, please consider becoming a member – we’re always keen on new ones. Joining information is here.

The month that goes with the caption designates the month the picture was published in (in case you’d like to track it down; monthly categories are on the lower rhs of this blog).

Enjoy 🙂
