Volunteers tidying up the hedges, allowing better views

FPS had a volunteer event at the Pond on Sunday 11th October and here are two photos from it.

2015-10-11 Getting Started

Getting started

Whilst carrying out the work we bumped into members of The Farnborough and Farnham Friends Meetup Group who were taking a ‘leisurely 6.5 mile walk based on Fleet Pond’. You may like to visit their site to get further information about them and also their future events.

The next Sunday volunteer event will be on 13th December – why not come along? If so, please remember to contact Hart Countryside as described below.

Volunteer Event This Sunday, 13 September

There will be a volunteer event at Fleet Pond this coming Sunday and all are welcome (see below for registering).

Colin Gray, Chairman of Fleet Pond Society, writes:

“Ranger Rachel plans to ensure you all get muddy this Sunday by taking you out into Wellington Reedbed (the one closest to Wellington Road). There will be reed cutting and clearing and scrub cutting to do. Please assemble as usual at the Countryside Workshop, Old Pump House Close, GU51 3DN, at 9.00 a.m.

I recommend wellington boots or waterproof boots for this task. Some sections of the reedbed are firm but there are plenty of squashy areas and some where a boot can go right through the reed mat into very muddy water. As usual a warm drink will be available mid-morning but bring water if you feel you might need a cool drink.

Remember there is very limited parking at the workshop so please park in Kenilworth Road.”

For further information and booking (which is essential as tools and resources have to be planned beforehand), please contact Hart Countryside Services:

The Sunday volunteer tasks are supervised by a Hart Countryside Ranger together with members of Fleet Pond Society.

Details of the programme from September 2015 to March 2016 can be found here.

Beavers Pay A Visit To The Pond

Above and below are a selection of photos taken when the Hawk Moth Beavers, of the 100th Elvetham Heath Scout Group, visited Fleet Pond last month.

Information on Scouting and the different sections of the above Scout Group can be found on their website here, including:

Scouting is run by volunteers, and all of those involved in the 100th Elvetham Heath Scout Group give their time and skills to make Scouting happen. We always need leaders, assistants and parent helpers to make the evenings possible for the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, but other volunteers are also necessary.

If you have a skill, trade or hobby and could spare some time, please let us know.

Many thanks to the Beavers for supplying the photos.

This event provides a good example of one of the many ways that Fleet Pond Society (FPS) helps in raising awareness and appreciation of Fleet Pond Nature Reserve.

If you would like to join FPS, and in so doing help support us in our numerous voluntary activities, please see here.

Volunteer Event This Sunday, 8 March

David Pottinger writes:

There will be a volunteer event this Sunday, 8 March at Fleet Pond.

Why not come along for some fresh air and exercise, as well as having the nice feeling that you’re doing something really useful for the local community?

Colin Gray, Chairman of FPS, writes:

Ranger Rachel has designated stream bank repairs along the Gelvert Stream as the task for 8th March. Those of you with wellies, please wear them as some splashing about in the stream will be required. There will be drier on-bank tasks as well if you do not have wellies.”

For further information and booking (which is essential as tools and resources have to be planned beforehand), please contact Hart Countryside Services:

Phone: 01252 623443
Email: countryside@hart.gov.uk

The tasks are supervised by a Hart Countryside Ranger together with members of Fleet Pond Society (FPS).

To get a flavour of our activities, here are some photos from the previous Sunday volunteer event, held on 8 February. As you can see, these events are good fun and quite popular!
